My Latest Project in Printing Ink & Packaging about Halal Certification

The relationship between halal certification for ink and packaging and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) though from different perspectives.

Halal Certification for Ink and Packaging
Halal certification ensures that:
Inks, adhesives, and coatings used in packaging do not contain haram (forbidden) substances, such as alcohol or animal-derived ingredients from non-halal sources.

HACCP and Chemical Hazards
HACCP focuses on identifying and controlling chemical, biological, and physical hazards in food production. In the context of packaging:
Ink migration is considered a chemical hazard.
HACCP plans must assess whether substances from packaging (like solvents or photoinitiators in ink) could leach into food.

When we talk about ink and packaging as chemical hazards in the context of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), we're focusing on how certain substances used in packaging—especially printing inks—can potentially contaminate food and compromise safety.

Why Ink Can Be a Chemical Hazard

Printing inks used on food packaging may contain:
Solvents
Heavy metals
Photoinitiators
Plasticizers

If these chemicals migrate from the packaging into the food (a process called migration), they can pose health risks. This is especially concerning for packaging that comes into direct contact with food or is used in high-temperature environments (like microwaveable containers).
